Alumni Success Stories

Bobbie Jo Axelrod

DANNY MELTON “SPIRIT AWARD” RECIPIENT

My name is Bobbie Jo Axelrod. I went to treatment in Davidson County TN. When I walked through the doors I was broken and couldn’t even look anyone in the eye. While in treatment the people in the Foundation where so loving and caring. They made our holidays and other events so special. All of the events they did for us on Mother’s Day, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, movie night ect. kept me pushing forward. They were able to help us have fun in recovery. We would all get together and decorate or rehearse for the plays. That gave me confidence to look people in the eyes and be able to speak again. Remember in addiction we isolate.

The Foundation gave me courage and my self-esteem back. I could communicate with others again. I wasn’t scared to talk to the Judge. I wasn’t looking down to talk to the women in the Foundation. They never judged me or made me feel less then. They just loved me and gave me encouragement. Today I’m 5 years clean. Life isn’t always perfect, but with the connection I still have with the people from the foundation and the alumni group is amazing. It keeps me strong and it gives me hope. I know I can call them at any moment if I need too. They have always been there for me.  Thank you for making me feel special and normal again.  Thank you for giving me back my confidence.
